About Artistic Creations
My company began as a family hobby. When my children were very young, they loved to act out fairy tales. When I saw their interest, I began creating costumes for them and we acted out our own versions of the stories on home video. Since I'd always loved to write, I decided to create a story of my own. I invented Twirly Shirley, a little girl with wacky braids that spin when she gets excited. (Twirly for her spinning braids, and Shirley, which is my Mother's name happens to rhyme with twirly). My children acted the story out on home video and in photographs. I used the photographs in my original versions of my Twirly Shirley books.
Above is an illustration of Twirly Shirley created by Melody Karns Trone. Melody bases her illustrated characters on the actual living stars in the original series. The first book in our series is called Twirly Shirley In My Sister The Twister. In this story, Shirley becomes nervous while trying out for a play of The Wizard Of Oz. Her braids spin out of control and Shirley is carried away in her own funnel cloud. She twists the town inside out when she is mistaken for a tornado.
We had a very positive reaction to this book. People seem to fall in love with Twirly Shirley--and I don't mean just the children. Women, and even men are smitten by the character. Melody and I worked together again to create a new version of my second book, Twirly Shirley And The Brother Like No Other. In this story, Shirley gets stage fright at the school Christmas play.. Her spinning braids create a blizzard right in the middle of the school auditorium. The story revolves around a brother like no other named Johnny. This story combines the adventures of Twirly Shirley with a lesson about love and forgiveness.
Our next book in the series is Twirly Shirley In Hurricane Shirley. We look forward to bringing you this adventure in May. Many more stories are on the way!
